Karen Curry was the London bureau chief for NBC News and, among other things, oversaw the bureau’s coverage of the death of Princess Diana. She later served as the former vice president and New York bureau chief for CNN. She currently serves as executive director of the Kal & Lucille Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies at Drexel University.
Made-in-America Uniform Debate:
Genevieve Dion is a textile, wearable art and fashion designer, a professor in the award-winning fashion design program at Drexel University and director of the Shima Seiki Haute Technology Laboratory in Drexel’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. She can discuss the uniforms designed for Team USA by Ralph Lauren and the debate regarding the importance of whether or not the uniforms are being manufactured in America.
Olympic Fashion:
Alphonso McClendon is a professor of fashion design in Drexel’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, who previously worked for Nautica for over a decade. He was the driving force behind the success of Nautica men’s swimwear; his swimwear designs have appeared in Men’s Vogue, Details and GQ, and were featured on NBC’s “The Today Show” and HBO’s “The Sopranos.”
Sports Nutrition and Exercise Physiology:
Dr. Stella Volpe , a professor and chair of the department of nutrition sciences in Drexel’s College of Nursing and Health Professions, is a nationally prominent expert in nutrition and exercise physiology. She is the chair-elect of the science board of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition. Volpe is an accomplished speaker on topics including body composition and exercise and general nutrition and exercise principles to help individuals improve their lifestyles.
Homeland Security & Emergency Management, Terrorism & Counter-Terrorism:
Dr. Scott White is a professor of homeland security and security management and director of the Computing Security and Technology program in Drexel’s Goodwin College of Professional Studies. Prior to his academic career, he served as a Security Intelligence Officer. He is currently teaching a course in emergency management called “Olympic Terror: Munich-London.” White completed his doctoral degree in criminology at the University of Bristol in Bristol, England.
Olympic History and Sports Psychology:
Dr. Eric Zillmer, neuropsychologist and director of athletics, can comment on a wide range of topics, including the history of the Olympics – both ancient and modern – as well as issues of gender, fan behavior, social context of sport, doping and performance enhancement. He has written extensively in the areas of sports psychology, neuropsychology and psychological assessment, having published more than 100 journal articles, chapters and books; and frequently contributes to local and national media on topics ranging from sports and forensic psychology to the psychology of terrorism.
